Because no one else will.
Actually, that is not true. Michael Yon, Bill Roggio, Bill Androlino, Michelle Malkin, Austin Bay, Chris Muir and the late Stephen Vincent have all done it.
But with the exception of Colonel North's crew, Gordon Forbes and handful of others, there are very few producers telling the stories of the grunts.
There are far more expose` type documentary and after the fact long-forms than documentaries covering a typical infantry platoon.
If I do not do it, I doubt anyone else will.
Moreover, subscribe to a teleological explanation of human purpose.
God has given me the physical tools to withstand the rigors of combat, the psychological temperment to deal with the stress of combat and set me down a path to where I would develop the skill-sets needed.
Of course every past decision puts us on the path to where we stand now, but looking back at the winding path that brought me to Iraq and where I am now, it all falls into place that by design, path and events I am suited to be one of those who has the privilege of traveling among those at the pointy edge of the spear.
Other occupations may utilize my skills sets, but nothing pulls them all together with meaning as telling the stories of grunts.
I do it because it needs to be done, because few others are doing it and because I can.
