There has been a modest up-tick in support for winning the war in Iraq.

The New York Times in a mid-July poll discovered up-tick and didn't believe it.  So, they ran the poll again.  Same result.  Support for the war was up.

The reason for the uptick?  An increase in optomistic Gross Ratings Points on the same topic.

Last month I detailed how the war in Iraq was also a war of Gross Rating Points.

GRPs are a measurement used by advertisers to determine how many people have seen an ad or message.

The question posed to me last month was how many GRPs would it take to swing the polls?

The answer is 1,000 GRPs.

The follow-up question is how could that be achieved before the Petraeus report when historically 65% of reports coming out of Iraq are pessimistic?

On average there are 373.5 total GRPs per week about Iraq.

Only 103.7 of those are optomistic.

But something has happened to move the polls and I don't think it is an increase in the total number of optomistic stories like this, as much as it is a unified theme behind the positive stories.

The unified theme being that "the surge is working."

"The surge is working" being a theme that can earn ratings points.

If one goes back to June, when the surge actually began, there would 1030 optomistic GRPs.

I'm willing to bet that 75% of those points were along the lines of the "the surge is working."  Which would yield 770 optomistic ratings points on a unified theme.

The ultimate test of my hypothesis will be if the polling continues to show up-ticks in support for continuing to fight and win.

Help JD get back to Iraq!  Buy a DVD or Contribute below.

JD is currently editing the follow-up to his 2005-2006 documentary Outside The Wire.  He will return to Iraq to shoot another documentary as soon as it is released.

We all know that freedom is not free--and neither is reporting from Iraq.

Each digital tape capturing the heroic efforts of Soldiers and Marines costs $7.  JD uses almost 100 tapes on each trip.  One DVD buys one tape that will permanently capture what the media refuses to cover.

As you know JD spends his time in Iraq with the Soldiers and Marines doing the work Outside The Wire. That means hundred and thousands of dollars of equipment and gear gets damaged.  Three dollars buys a new protective lens cover.  Fifty dollars buys a pair of ballistic glasses.  Just to get there, the airfare costs $1,500.

It all helps and it is all needed to tell the story that is not being told.

If you have the desire and means to contribute more and be a co-producer please contact JD via email.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and any support you can give.
